December 2 - Stephanie Jansma

Morgan Harper Nichols is a creative that shares the gospel through poetry and illustration. Recently, I scrolled upon the following poem on Instagram:

Keep looking

to the window,

to the part

of the room

where the Light pours in.

For that is where,

you’ll be reminded

again and again

no matter what happens,

these shadows cannot hold you.

It’s encouraging to me, how a mundane thing I do countless times throughout the day, such as checking Instagram, can bring me such hope—curating a social media feed that inspires is so valuable—but that’s another devotional thought.

I’m often overwhelmed. By the world’s darkness and injustice. By my own brokenness. By my feeling ill-equipped to hold light to issues in such a time as this.

BUT, these shadows—the war, violence, prejudice, hate and loneliness that our world experiences—CANNOT hold us as followers of the Light. Because no matter what happens, whether the hardest of injustices or the greatest of heartbreaks, the Light pours in. Again and again.

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! I {We} say:  The Lord is my {our} portion, therefore I {we} will put my {our} hope in Him.” Lamentations 3:22-23
